Coin Collecting System... Maybe??
So had some suggest about a collecting system similar to Sonic's Rings & Mario's Coins. I honestly not sure about it cause of the type of game Wrapturous Adventure is. Like sure Sonic and Mario don't pick up the items, but my mind feels like that is sort happens so having some item get collected by Yui feels jarring. Sure I can try and create some story reason why they just magically get collected by Yui and maybe they server a purpose in the game, but honest I feel like it might clash with the game.
I will say that it can work as an unlockable game mode, but as being a part of the main campaign I am unsure. So I updated the demo with the coin system and gonna allow my supporters access to that updated demo for feedback. Depending on what my supporters say and with some time I'll see if I look further into this being a possible addition to the game.

The first thing that came up in my mind for collecting was magic anal beads. If the sanity/life meter doesn't pan out, maybe have the collectibles be a currency to unlock different outfits? Or if it's not too much work, make both common coins and rarer life gems, or is that too much feature creep and bloat?
What would you do with them?
Pretty much I am heavily leaning on them being like Sonic Rings. Collecting them increases Yui's Sanity and if she gets caught/punish she looses some of that Sanity. If she gets caught/punished when she is at zero it is game over.
I think it could work either way. If you choose to add them in, you could use diamond-shaped gems as the medium; it would match the overall feel of the game, and probably wouldn't need much explanation. You could put a quick tutorial tip in the beginning to explain them. It could say something like "Collect these to replenish Sanity."
I think I agree with you that it would detract from the overall game due to its nature. It would be less about escaping and more about collecting and searching. I like the idea of being able to unlock an event to do a speed run to collect all of the gems before the time runs out, else, well you lose. The question would be: what would the reward be by completing the event?
Just a thought: how close to the Alpha game are you trying to get?
I think it would be a good idea to have every 5 or 10 coins collected replenish one sanity. And yui could probably pick up the coins with her toes, or it could be jewelry like toe rings.
I would go with more magical orbs that Yui just absorbs when crossing paths with it

(and maybe some dialogue commenting on it or a unique punishment graphic for it).
